    Boston Public Library Events

    To mark the one year anniversary of the tragic events of the 2013 Boston Marathon, the Boston Public Library is hosting the archival exhibition Dear Boston: Messages from the Marathon Memorial, and a variety of commemorative programs such as author talks and concerts during the week of April 14.

    Visual Art & Poetry Exhibitions at City Hall

    The City Hall Marathon Art Exhibition will take place from April 22 until May 16 in the Scollay Square Gallery on the 3rd floor Mezzanine Balcony. The exibition will feature photography, paintings, a large "Mending Quilt," and other artifacts of sympathy and solidarity. Marathon Poetry will also be installed by the City Hall elevators as part of the Mayor's Prose & Poetry Program.

    Our Marathon - A Community Project

    "Our Marathon" is an archive of pictures, videos, stories, and social media related to the Boston Marathon; the bombing on April 15, 2013; the subsequent search, capture, and trial of the individuals who planted the bombs; and the city’s healing process.The archive will serve as a memorial, preserving these records for students and researchers, providing future historians with invaluable, local windows into an important national event.

    City Archives: A Digital Memorial

    Notes and well-wishes have come from every corner of the globe after the events of the Boston Marathon, but many of these messages are not weather-resistant. The more fragile keepsakes were moved to City Archives in West Roxbury; many of these keepsakes have been included in a digital collection called the OneBoston Tumblr as well as on the City Archives official Tumblr.

    Free Drop-In Counseling

    The Boston Public Health Commission is pleased to provide counselors with special expertise in trauma to talk with individuals about any concerns and emotions regarding the 2014 marathon and 2013 anniversary events in the Back Bay/Copley area.

    No appointment is necessary and there is no charge for services. Drop by anytime between 5 and 7pm on Tuesday evenings, April 8, 15, 22 and 29, at the Boston Public Library - Copley.

    Join the City of Boston, the nation, and the world in a moment of silence on Tuesday, April 15 at 2:49 PM in memory of the tragic events of the 2013 Boston Marathon.


    A Boston Marathon Tribute will be held at the Hynes Convention Center on Tuesday, April 15 to honor those affected by last year’s events, including those who lost lives, survivors, and first responders. The 118th running of the Boston Marathon will take place on Monday, April 21.
