Roadway Inspection

Streets and sidewalks are visually inspected every three years to document their condition.

After being inspected, each street and sidewalk is graded on a scale from 0 (worst) to 100 (best). Using these grades, the Construction Management Division is able to determine roads needing routine and preservation maintenance, asphalt resurfacing, or total reconstruction.

The pavement's life is timed as carefully as possible to minimize the cost of repair. The Construction Management Division works to anticipate when pavements will degrade. By performing maintenance on sections likely to degrade or already showing signs of degradation, the Division avoids having to perform more extensive and costly future repairs.
