Street Sweeping Program Changes

The Public Works Department is making changes to the posted street sweeping program to provide cleaner streets and reduce rodent food sources.

New Street Sweeping Days

The Public Works Department will be implementing a new schedule of posted street sweeping days for many streets in the neighborhoods of Boston over the next two years beginning in the Spring of 2012. The goal of the alterations is to provide mechanical street sweeping services to more closely follow residential trash and recycling collection days. This new schedule will alleviate much of the litter generated by the weekly collection in a faster and more efficient manner. To view the new schedule, please visit our No-Tow page.

Winter Street Sweeping

Sweeping in the North End and South End has been expanded to include the months of December and March.

During these months, existing posted schedules, parking restrictions, and enforcement procedures will remain in place including ticketing and towing of illegally parked vehicles.

There will be no posted street sweeping or program related parking enforcement during the months of January and February.

Adverse winter weather may impact the expanded program during the months of December and March. In the event that Public Works decides to cancel street sweeping and parking enforcement for weather related reasons, notifications will be sent out by e-mail to NO-TOW subscribers (see below) or you may contact the Mayor’s 24 Hour Hotline for updated information at 617-635-4500.
