Maintenance Division

The City of Boston's park system is carefully maintained through the efforts of the Boston Parks Department's Maintenance Division and park partnerships established throughout city neighborhoods. The Department's maintenance operations provide a world-class park system that invites Bostonians and visitors to relax and enjoy our open spaces.

The Maintenance Division oversees a comprehensive citywide program ranging from lawn mowing to snow removal. The main focus of the Division is the timely upkeep of the hundreds of sites and facilities under the Department's care and custody. In addition to the basic tasks of park maintenance, trash removal, field lining and grass cutting, the Division is also responsible for the city's treescape, the Department's horticulture programs, building and equipment repairs, and over 400 other sites maintained as part of the city's beautification program.

The ParkLine, operated by the Department's constituent service office at (617) 635-PARK (7275), receives thousands of calls annually park and tree-related maintenance requests. Approximately half of the calls received are for general park maintenance with the majority of the remaining half for tree care requests. The Division delivers a high level of service to the users of Boston's parks as its hardworking staff strives on a daily basis to provide clean, green and safe parks for all.

The Maintenance Division is organized into six units: Grounds Maintenance; Support Services; Trades; Constituent Services; Horticulture; and Urban Forestry. Please call the ParkLine for any parks-related issues or questions.
