The Litigation Division of the City of Boston Law Department defends the City of Boston’s interests in civil lawsuits filed against the City.  Litigation attorneys are skilled at handling all aspects of a lawsuit from the complaint through trial or other final disposition.   Our attorneys handle a broad range of civil matters, including, but not limited to:

  • Personal injury and other torts;
  • Civil rights;
  • Employment law;
  • Voting rights and election law;
  • Contracts and road defects;
  • Affirmative recovery.

We litigate in federal, state and administrative courts and represent City of Boston employees acting in their official capacity on behalf of the City.  On average, the Litigation Division handles about 1,600 cases per year.  Attorneys within the Litigation Division aggressively and effectively represent their clients by combining their experience and skills with the highest standard of ethics and excellence resulting in high quality work and positive case dispositions.
