The Housing Inspection Division enforces the State Sanitary Code and the City of Boston Ordinances that regulate the quality of Boston's public and private housing stock.

The Housing Division staff consists of 32 public servants, 24 of which are Housing Inspectors, who endeavor to ensure that our city's residents have access to safe, decent housing. The Housing Division operates from Monday to Saturday, 8:00am - 5:45pm each day.

The Housing Division's regulatory authority primarily derives from the "housing code", properly referred to as Article II of the State Sanitary Code, (105 CMR 410), and City of Boston Code Ordinances: CBC 9-1.3, Rental Inspections; CBC 9-1.5, Rental Unit Delivery Standards; and CBC 9-11, Security Ordinance for Elderly & Disabled Developments.
