2016 A. Michael Mullane Health and Safety Symposium

Hosted by the Boston Fire Department and Boston Firefighters IIAF Local 718

The A. Michael Mullane Health and Safety Symposium offers two days of engaging and informative health and safety workshops on various topics of great importance to the fire service including:

  • Cancer Awareness and Prevention

  • Heart Disease in the Fire Service\Fire Department

  • Behavioral Health Services

  • Advancing Health and Safety Initiatives through Labor/Management Cooperation

This Symposium is named in honor of the late 3rd District Vice President A. Michael Mullane, who gave 43 years of dedicated service to both the Boston Fire Department and to the union.  This event carries forward his legacy by providing all firefighters the health and safety information that they need for a long and prosperous career in this great profession.

Apply to Become a Firefighter

  • The written exam will be held on April 16th, 2016.

  • The application deadline is March 1, 2016.

  • There is an additional $50 late fee for applications received after March 1, 2016.

  • Applications will NOT be accepted after March 21, 2016.

Open Houses

We will be hosting a series of open houses to provide information about the upcoming firefighter's exam. Open houses will be held on Saturdays from 10 AM- 12 PM on the following dates at the listed locations:

  • January 9, E41 & L14, 460 Cambridge St Brighton

  • January 23, E9 & L2, 239 Sumner St East Boston

  • February 6, E24 & L23, 36 Washington St Dorchester

  • February 13, E28 & TL10, 746 Centre St Jamaica Plain

  • February 20, E14 & L4, 174 Dudley St Roxbury

  • February 27, E48 & L28, 60 Fairmont Ave Hyde Park

  • March 5, E52 & L29, 975 Blue Hill Ave Dorchester

We will also host a test preparation session at Florian Hall, 55 Hallet St, Dorchester on March 29, 2016 from 6 PM - 8 PM. All events are free and open to the public. Cancelations due to inclement weather will be posted on facebook.com/bostonfiredepartment

  • New Ordinance Enacted in Boston

    Regulating the use and sale of outdoor cooking appliances, outdoor patio and space heaters, outdoor decorative appliances, and outdoor fireplaces. On July 30, 2014 the Boston City Council amended the Boston Fire Prevention Code by passing Article XXXIII of the Boston Fire Prevention Code.
