Edward Shurin United States Army 5 December 1924 – 17 January 1945 Edward Shurin was born on December 5, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts and resided in Dorchester. Edward was attending a Massachusetts state college when he was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 29, 1943 to fight in World War Two. Edward was a Private First Class infantry soldier and was assigned to the 289th Regimental Combat Team, 75th Infantry Division. Along with his division, PFC Shurin shipped out to Europe in October of 1944 and was almost immediately thrown into battle in the Ardennes Offensive in December. On January 17, 1945, PFC Shurin was killed in action at the age of 20 during an attack in the Salmchateau area. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and is buried/memorialized in Birsen Cemetery, Everett, Massachusetts. Edward Shurin was survived by his mother Dinah Shurin and his father Max Shurin who resided in Dorchester.
