Clarence M. Ronan United States Army 16 February 1929 – 19 September 1950 Clarence Mark Ronan was born on February 16, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts and resided in Roxbury, MA. Clarence joined the United States Army to fight in the Korean War. He was a Private First Class in Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On September 15, 1950, the Division landed at Inchon, far behind the North Korean lines and began the Battle of Inchon. The battle was later considered one of the most decisive military operations in modern warfare. While fighting in the Battle of Inchon, on September 19, 1950, PFC Ronan was killed in action at the age of 21. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart. PFC Ronan’s body returned to the U.S. aboard the Provo Victory on August 24, 1951. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Boston, Massachusetts. He was survived by his mother Helen Ronan, who resided in Roxbury.
