Michael Francis Austin

Michael Francis Austin was born on March 29, 1979 in Crowley, Louisiana. As a resident of Dorchester MA he showed his love for this country when he was enlisted into the United States Army on August 21, 1967 and began active duty that same day. Michael served as Corporal with the 1st Aviation Brigade, 13th Aviation Battalion, 164th Aviation Group, and the 175th Aviation Company. He was KIA in South Vietnam, Vinh Long province on February 18, 1968 from metal fragment wounds received while on an aircraft when the aircraft came under hostile action from an artillery rocket mortar. For the heroism displayed in his service to our country, Michael was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Michael was survived by his wife Mrs. Antoinette Austin, a resident of Dorchester.
