Daniel J. Shempa United States Army Medical Corps 26 December 1913 – 19 January 1945 Daniel Joseph Shempa was born on December 26, 1913 in Boston and resided in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Daniel married Julia Esther O’Neil on February 24, 1941 in Keene, New Hampshire. Daniel enlisted in the United States Army Medical Corps on August 14, 1942 and began active duty the same day. Daniel was a Captain, serving in the Pacific ocean theater of World War Two. While on Luzon Island in the Philippines, at the 42nd General Hospital, Captain Shempa was killed in action on January 19, 1945 at the age of 31. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart. Daniel is memorialized at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Keene, New Hampshire. Daniel was survived by his wife, Julia E. (O’Neil) Shempa and his parents Marie and Louis Shempa.
