John W. Powers United States Army 6 August 1919 – 27 February 1945 John W. Powers was born on August 6, 1919 in Boston. As a resident of Charlestown, he was inducted into the United States Army on May 3, 1944 and began active duty the same day. John proudly served as a private in the 345th Infantry Regiment and the 87th Infantry Division. He died in service on February 27, 1945 in Germany. John was awarded the purple heart. He is buried at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and was survived by his wife Grace.
