Joseph Francis Brennan was born on October 14, 1914 in Boston and resided in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Joseph attended 4 years of High School and worked as a Checker before enlisting in the United States Army at Fort Devens, MA on February 23, 1942. He was a Private in Company K, 80th Infantry Division, 318th Infantry Regiment. The Division went overseas to Europe on July 1, 1944. They landed on Utah beach on August 5th and then attacked Argentan, taking it, 20 August, and creating the Falaise Pocket. It was on September 16, 1944 that Private Brennan was killed in action at the age of 29, in the vicinity of Atton, France. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart. Private Brennan was buried/memorialized at Lorraine American Cemetery, Plot C, Row 21, Grave 41, St. Avold, France. Joseph F. Brennan was survived by his parents Robert and Josephine Brennan of Charlestown.
