John Joseph Walsh United States Air Force 12 June 1922 – 8 May 1952 John Joseph Walsh was born on June 12, 1922 and resided in Waltham, Massachusetts. John entered the United States Air Force on August 14, 1943. Major Walsh served with the Headquarters Squadron, 49th Fighter Bomber Group during the Korean War. He was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter. On May 8, 1952, John and 3 other aircrafts were on an attack mission against an enemy supply center near Namjong-ni, North Korea. Major Walsh reported that he was hit by enemy ground fire and started to lose altitude. His aircraft was observed to have exploded with no further sight of John. John was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. Major Walsh was most notably awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart. John J. Walsh is currently honored at Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.
