October is the month for great Boston youth soccer as the 2013 Mayor’s Cup Soccer Tournament kicks off.  Sponsored by Comcast, teams throughout Boston participate in this citywide tournament to vie for the championship title in three divisions for boys and girls ages 8-14 (Girls, Boys U10, Girls, Boys U12, Girls, Boys U14.)  The tournament is organized by Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF,) the City of Boston’s largest youth and human service agency.

“I would like to thank Comcast for their support of youth sports in Boston and in particular, their continued sponsorship of Boston’s annual Mayor’s Cup Soccer Tournament,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino.

Games begin on Saturday, October 12th at 9 a.m. with the last game that day scheduled to start at 5 p.m.  On Sunday the 13th, games begin at 9 a.m. and end with a 3 p.m. game.  All games are played on the soccer fields at Millennium Park in West Roxbury.  Each division is formatted as a double elimination tournament with all teams being guaranteed at least two games.

“Soccer is the most popular game in the world and, with the support of Comcast, we are able to host this tournament and bring together Boston youth from across the city to share their love of the game while displaying their talent and sportsmanship,” said Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families.

Support for the Mayor’s Cup Soccer Tournament is also provided by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
