Mayor Thomas M. Menino and presenting sponsor TARGET have announced that the 6th annual (ähts): The Boston Arts Festival will take place Friday September 12 from 2 – 7:30 pm, Saturday September 13 & Sunday September 14 from noon to 6 PM, at Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.

Highlights include:

  • An Artists' Village containing over 65 juried visual artists exhibiting and selling their works of art
  • Peformances on 2 stages featuring Blue Man Group, Boston Ballet, Bleu, Zili Misik and much more
  • Family friendly activities with the Mayor's Mural Crew and Boston Children's Museum

The full schedule is as follows:

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12- WATERFRONT STAGE
5:30 - 5:45 pm Riverside Theatre Works
Singing light opera, popular arias and broadway tunes come the Hyde Park favorites

5:45 - 6:00 pm Blue Man Group
Blue paint will be flying along with a tempo of pulsating sounds from this beloved group who are now mainstays within the Boston arts scene

6:00 - 7:30 pm Buffalo Tom Boston Indie legends playing hits from albums such as "Big Red Letter Day"

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 - WATERFRONT STAGE
12:00 - 12:45 pm Zili Misik Performing African, Caribbean & American soul, this vibrant all-female group will bring back memories of warm summer days

1:15 - 2:00 pm Chu Ling Dance & OrigiNation
Showcasing classical Chinese Dance, Chu Ling will also premier her new work- "The Sword". OrigiNation will dance to the tempo of Hip Hop and play homage to classical steps

3:00 - 3:45 pm Boston Ballet
Dancing costumed classical pieces along with some audience participation, this popular dance company are a firm favorite at the festival year after year

4:15 - 4:45 pm Eleonora Bianchini
Singing jazz numbers, this former Berklee student will perform in both her native Italian and adopted English

5:00 - 5:30 pm Everyday Visuals
Music from local indie group considered to be the next big thing. They were also named "Best Rock Act" in the Improper Bostonian this year

5:45 - 6:30 pm Bleu
Performing hits from his critically acclaimed albums "Headroom" and "Red Head" this Boston artist, now based in LA, makes his return to the Boston stage

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th - Waterfront Stage
12:00 - 12:45 pm Ensemble from Klezmer Conservatory
Mixing up Jewish ragtime and Dixieland in a vibrant musical cocktail. Be prepared to dance!

1:15 - 2:00 pm Aparna Sindhoor Dance
Performing original work, this Indian dance group have toured these pieces throughout Asia, Canada and the USA

3:00 - 3:45 pm Boston Ballet
Dancing costumed classical pieces along with some audience participation, this popular dance company are a firm favorite at the festival year after year

4:15 - 4:45 pm Iyeoka
Performing original work with some popular covers, this young spoken word artist / soul singer recently was featured on a compilation album covering U2's "Desire"

5:00 - 5:30 pm Tarbox Ramblers
Playing original bluegrass or "adult alternative" music, this popular local group have a cult following across Europe and the USA

5:45 - 6:15 pm Bon Savants
Demonstrating music versatility, this popular local indie group will be playing from their album "Post Rock Defends the Nation"

A steel drum explosion from this energetic group

Popular Hyde Park Irish dance company dancing jigs and reels

2:30 - 3:00 pm Opera Boston / Cloud Foundation
Featuring young opera talent singing well known areas

3:45 - 4:15 pm Ritmo En Accion
Vibrant dance performance from this local troupe. A teen group now running for 7 years, this troupe has danced at salsa events internationally

WORKSHOPS

The Boston Arts Festival is presented by TARGET and co-sponsored by Metro Boston, Boston magazine, State Street, Boston Symphony orchestra, WBUR, Hunt Alternatives Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts and the MTA. The 3-day festival takes place at Christopher Columbus Park, conveniently located on Boston's waterfront between Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Boston's historic North End. The Park is easily accessed via public transportation: Blue Line to Aquarium stop, Green Line to the Haymarket stop, or the Orange Line also to Haymarket stop.
