Mayor Menino Asks Residents to Recycle Christmas Trees, Catalogs and Wrapping Paper

In an effort to be more environmentally responsible, the City will collect Christmas trees for two weeks after the holidays and compost them for future use. Boston residents must dispose of their Christmas trees on their trash day between January 7th and 18th. The City will collect Christmas trees only during these two weeks.

IMPORTANT

Please remove ornaments, decorations, and stands from the trees. Also, do not put trees in plastic bags. Place trees at the curb on your regular trash collection day. The Public Works Department will collect and compost the trees.

Residents are also reminded to recycle their holiday catalogs and wrapping paper, by placing them in a paper bag along with their newspapers and magazines to be recycled at curbside.

For further information, please call the Boston Recycling Program at (617) 635-4959.
