Today, the Boston Inspectional Services Department announces the re-launch of the Code Enforcement “Bikes on the Beat” initiative.  On  August 5 , 2012, 7 Code Enforcement Officers attended a three day “bike training” course with the Boston Police Training Facility.  Upon completing the course Officers received a certificate of completion certifying the Officers in: bike safety, instructions on basic safety pre-cautions consisting of: safety gear, helmets, kneepads, shatter resistant eye protection and gloves.

Code Enforcement Officers will descend upon densely populated neighborhoods such as:  Back Bay, Beacon Hill, the South End and Downtown Boston on their city issued bikes which will allow Officers to facilitate a quick and timely response through densely populated areas. The bicycles will allow officers to circumvent heavy traffic areas at a fast pace, and also providing increased visibility of the CEP Officers.

Mayor Menino said, “this is a great program that will connect my staff with the general public on a daily basis.  I urge passerby’s to approach the CEP officers with any questions they may have regarding trash, posting of signs or any other Code Enforcement related issues of which I guarantee a quick and timely response.”

CEP Officers will be in the above mentioned neighborhoods Sunday - Monday   8:00a.m. to 5:45 p.m.  If you have any questions regarding the CEP Division log on to: or call 617-635-4896.
