Disability Commission Events

The Commission for Persons With Disabilities hosts a number of events throughout the year for the public to raise awareness of and support for accessbility issues.

    Disability Reframed: Community Film Series

    Ongoing free film series presented by the Boston Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities & the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities. The public is welcome to join the community for free showings of movies and documentaries on a variety of disability related topics. Showings are followed by a group discussion.

  • Disability Mentoring Day Logo (75)

    Disability Mentoring Day

    October is “National Disability Employment Awareness Month.” The Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities partners with the Mass Rehab Commission to participate in Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) in October at City Hall. A select group of job-seekers with disabilities participate in training, job-shadowing, and career counseling. Participants, all residents of the City of Boston, are matched with different City departments to gain first-hand experience in public service careers.

    ADA Celebration Day

    ADA Celebration Day is a yearly celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The event is held in Boston every July around the anniversary of the ADA signing. Usually featuring a speaking program, social events, music, food, and a community resource fair, ADA Celebration Day was developed for people of all ages and all abilities to come together a celebrate a milestone in the disability community.

    Community Forum

    The Community Forum is a yearly event that provides residents of Boston with an opportunity to share their thoughts about improving access and inclusion throughout the city; to talk about access priorities; and learn about ways to become involved in disability issues. Together, forum attendees, Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board members, and staff set the advocacy priorities of the commission for the upcoming year.
