Proceeds from the We Are Boston Gala support:
The English for New Bostonians Initiative (ENB), a city-private-community partnership initiated by the Mayor's Office of New Bostonians in 2001 and committed to expanding the City's long term capacity to meet the demand for English classes by reducing the number of people on the waitlist (it is estimated that over 3,500 immigrants are currently waiting to enter English Speakers of Other Languages -ESOL classes.)
The New Bostonians Summit- The Summit brings together leaders from 7 sectors( businesses, philanthropies, higher education, immigrant communties, government, labor, and community based providers) to address the three key issues face by the immigrant communities - ESOL , Jobs and Education. Summit participants also take on the implementation of the strategies and make realistic changes to move the issues forward. As a result of these programs, 500 more New Bostonians will have increased access to ESOL classes in the next three years. New Bostonians will be able to better access job training programs, jobs and higher education, increase their earnings and be more involved in their children's education.
A showcase of Boston's diversity through personal stories.
