Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 59, s 5C allows the City to grant a residential exemption (reduction on taxable valuation) to property occupied as the principal residence of its owner. To be considered for the residential exemption, complete this application. You must include your social security number on the application. (For the purpose of this exemption, the principal residence is the address from which your Massachusetts income tax return is filed. Your Social Security Number is required to verify eligibility. This information will be kept confidential and be used solely to confirm a 2006 personal income tax filing from your address with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Revenue)

Property Record Card Request Form
Obtain a record card for property situated within the City of Boston by completing and mailing the request form. A $5.00 fee per parcel is applicable for each record card payable by cash, check or money order made payable to the City of Boston.

Under the authority of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, the Boston Assessing Department now requires charitable organizations filing Form 3ABC for property located in Boston to provide additional tenant information under Section D, REAL ESTATE

Fiscal year 2007 exempt property values are currently available only in the assessing department.
Every charitable, benevolent, educational, literary, temperance or scientific organization or trust owning real or personal property on January 1 must file a Exemption Preliminary Consideration Form in order to be eligible for exemption. In addition, the organization must submit a 3 ABC property declaration by March 1st of every year in order to receive a local tax exemption on that property under G. L. Ch.59 § 5 Clause 3 for the fiscal year that begins the July 1. Veterans organizations seeking exemption of real or personal property under G. L. Ch. 59 § 5 Clauses 5, 5A or 5B must also file a return.
