- Posted on October 2, 2002 The Boston Redevelopment Authority accepted the following provisions of the E.R.I. on August 23, 2002: applications for retirement must be submitted to the Boston Retirement Board by the close of business (5PM) on December 1, 2002; retirement date is set at December 31, 2002.
- Posted September 9, 2002: The final day for submitting an intent to retire form (ITR) for City of Boston employees was August 31, 2002. In excess of 500 ITRs were submitted for the 350 available slots. The Boston Retirement Board is now working, with the Administration, on determining the financial impact of expanding the cap. As of this date, the ceiling of 350 remains unchanged. However, if there is an increase to the cap, the information will be posted on this website as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and continued cooperation.
- On June 4, 2002 The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) has accepted the ERI provisions as follows:
- Applications must be filed with the Boston Retirement Board by the close of business (i.e. 5PM) on July 30, 2002;
- The effective date of retirement is October 1, 2002 and the last date of employment is September 30, 2002;
- The ERI is limited to 32 participants, with priority given to those with the most years of creditable service.

Mayor Menino signed an E.R.I. for City of Boston employees on June 25, 2002. The application deadline is August 31, 2002 and the effective date of retirement for all participants is October 31, 2002. In conjunction the following cap is in effect by employee group:
- Group 1: 350 employees
- Group 2: 20 employees
- Group 4: 0 employees
Years of creditable service determine a member's seniority within each group.

Boston Water & Sewer Commission has adopted an E.R.I. with an application deadline of August 31, 2002 and an effective date of retirement of October 31, 2002, with a yet to be determined cap number.

Public Health Commission has adopted an E.R.I. with an application deadline of August 31, 2002 and an effective date of retirement of October 31, 2002, with a yet to be determined cap number.

The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department accepted an E.R.I., effective on June 30, 2002. Applications must be submitted to the Boston Retirement Board by the close of business on September 30, 2002. The effective date of retirement is November 30, 2002. Retirements are capped at ninety-five participants.
Participants will receive a general overview of the ERI program, including an explanation of the various application periods, retirement deadlines, and the necessary steps in order to participate. Those attending will be taken through the "benefits calculation" process and will be shown how to estimate their own retirement benefits. Upon conclusion, those interested in the ERI program, or those requiring additional clarification, may schedule a "one-on-one" counseling appointment, at a later date, with a Retirement Board staff member that will take place at the Retirement Board in City Hall Room 816.
