Asphalt Resurfacing

Every year, the Construction Management Division oversees the resurfacing of about 200 City streets.

Asphalt resurfacing takes place in the following steps that typically take about two weeks to complete:

  1. Construct or upgrade pedestrian access ramps and adjacent sidewalks

  2. Mill existing roadway surface

  3. Pave one and one-half inches for the first layer of asphalt called a leveling or intermediate course

  4. Adjust cast iron structures, such as manholes, in the roadway

  5. Pave remaining one and one-half inches of asphalt

  6. Paint crosswalks, center lines, bike lanes, etc.

    Street Resurfacing Program

    Construction season runs from April 1st to November 30th. During this time, Public Works will oversee the resurfacing or reconstruction of over 200 City streets.
