Pedestrian Access Ramps

When a street is resurfaced or reconstructed, the Construction Management Division oversees the installation of pedestrian access ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Pedestrian access ramp replacement takes place in seven stages

  1. Four inches of existing ramp is excavated

  2. Excavated area is compacted and leveled

  3. Edge stone is reset

  4. 6' landing is formed using boards

  5. Concrete is poured for the landing and/or bricks are laid for the landing. Concrete is brushed 30 minutes after pour to produce a non-stick surface

  6. Ramp is formed using boards

  7. Concrete is poured for the ramp and/or bricks are laid for the ramp. Concrete is brushed 30 minutes after pour to produce a non-stick surface.
