MBTA Pass Program

The MBTA Pass Program allows all City of Boston Employees to purchase MBTA Passes through pre-tax payroll deductions.  Boston Public School employees who work at 26 Court St. are eligible for a modified MBTA Pass Program which allows them to purchase a Bus Pass or a Link Pass (Charlie Cards) through pre-tax payroll deductions.

Flexible Spending Accounts

The City of Boston offers employees the option of enrolling in Flexible Spending Accounts. This program allows employees the ability to have money withheld from their pay check on a pre-tax basis to pay for dependent care expenses, out of pocket medical/dental expenses and work related transportation expenses.  The City currently contracts with Cafeteria Plan Advisors, Inc. (CPA, Inc.)

Child Care services are available for children aged 3 months to seven years old on a limited basis through the City Hall Child Care program.

The Employee Assistance Program is a free and confidential program focusing on the wellness of employees and their immediate family members. EAP staff provides a wide range of services including assessment, referral, supervisory and management consultations, brief treatment, case management, advocacy and crisis intervention.

Paid Time Off

A valuable benefit for all full time employees, the City negotiates Paid Time Off with each bargaining unit separately. Paid Time Off may also differ based on the employee’s completed years of service with the City or other Massachusetts government employer.

Sick Leave Redemption

An employee who has used fewer than 5 sick days in the 12-month period ending on December 31st of any year may elect to redeem sick days in a lump sum cash payment.

City employees in these specific unions, AFSCME, SEIU and SENA, may receive reimbursement for the cost of education in a course of study related directly to the employee’s work.
