All regular employees who work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for health insurance coverage. Some examples of the

Life Insurance
$5,000.00 Life Insurance Policy - issued to City of Boston employees who join any of the medical insurance plans.Optional Life Insurance Plan - available to employees for an additional premium
Retirement System
City employees are required to become members of the State Boston Retirement plan. It is a comprehensive system which provides defined benefit pensions to workers who have retired after a fixed number of years of service and age or who have become disabled.More Info »
Deferred Compensation Alternative
Employees who are eligible to invest pre-taxed dollars through payroll deductions. Deferred Compensation permits you to
defer up to 25% or $7,500.00 of your salary (whichever is less) from federal and state taxes.
Direct Deposit
A banking service that enables the City of Boston to deposit your weekly paycheck into your checking, savings, or N.O.W.
account.
Credit Union
City of Boston employees are eligible to join the credit union which offers various savings and checking accounts at
competitive interest rates: regular savings, club discounts, N.O.W. accounts, money market accounts, Individual Retirement
Accounts.
Money Savings Programs
Periodically the City of Boston offers its employees various money saving programs.
Sick Leave Redemption "Sick Leave Buy Back"
An employee who has used fewer than 5 sick days in the 12-month period ending on December 31st of any year may elect to
redeem sick days in a lump sum cash payment.
Employee Assistance Program
A confidential program designed to assist City employees and their immediate families in the prevention, recognition, and
treatment of drug and alcohol dependence and other personal problems (such as, but not limited to, stress, grief, marriage,
balancing work and family issues, parenting, eldercare, and other emotional concerns).
Thirteen Paid Holidays
All City of Boston employees are allowed vacation.
Leave of Absences
Jury Duty - eligible employees who are required to serve on a jury shall be granted a leave of absence without loss
of pay.Bereavement - eligible employees who have completed their 6 months trial period will be eligible for 3 days paid bereavement leave for specific family members.
Military - eligible employees who are members of a reserve unit of the armed forces of the United States shall be granted leave of absence with pay during the time of his/her duty provided that such leave will not exceed 17 working days.
Pregnancy/Maternity - eligible female employees shall be granted leave without pay for a period of time
Parental - eligible employees who are the primary caregivers of a child shall be granted 1 week leave to attend to the child.
Medical - subject to the operation needs of a department, eligible employees may be granted a maximum of 1 year unpaid medical leave.
Educational - eligible employees may be entitled to a leave of absence, without pay, for up to 1 year to further his/her education.
Personal - subject to the operating needs of a department, and with the approval of Appointing Authority, employees shall be granted unpaid leave of absences for a maximum of 6 months.
