Every situation is different and we can't anticipate the exact nature of every emergency. Therefore it is important to have a range of preparations - only some of which will be needed depending on the situation. While the City of Boston is taking important steps to prepare for an emergency, Boston residents must also start down their own road to emergency preparedness.
Developed under the guidance of the FEMA ReadyAmerica initiative, ReadyBoston focuses on an all-hazards approach (natural or man-made) for emergency preparedness based on 4 pillars:
- Creating a household emergency plan
- Making a household emergency kit and Go-Bag
- Being informed about various hazards
- Getting involved in community preparedness organizations.
OEM works to educate Boston residents about emergency preparedness by attending community events and resources fairs, as well as by providing emergency preparedness presentations.
If you are interested in having a representative from the Office of Emergency Management provide a workshop on Emergency Preparedness, please submit a request using the Presentation Request form.
