Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced the finalists in the City’s Deck the Windows of Boston Main Streets contest, a friendly competition that tests the creativity of local businesses and promotes neighborhood Main Streets business districts by asking them to decorate their storefronts for the holidays. Residents are encouraged to vote online for their favorite holiday-themed windows. The contest is part of Mayor Menino’s Deck the City campaign, encouraging both residents and business owners to celebrate the holiday season by decorating their homes and local businesses districts.

“It’s great that so many neighborhood businesses decorated their windows in the spirit of the holiday season this year,” Mayor Menino said.  “Please visit our Main Streets districts do your holiday shopping, take stock of our festive windows, and to vote on our website for your favorite holiday display.”

Since 2010, the Deck the Windows holiday storefront decorating competition has promoted holiday shopping and businesses in the Boston Main Streets Districts during the holiday season.  Past winners include the Switch in Hyde Park, Top it Off in West Roxbury, and Back to Life Chiropractic & Wellness in Dorchester. This year, more than 350 windows were decorated with festive flair by Wednesday, December 4th.  Last week, local judges reviewed the decorated windows in the Boston Main Streets districts and each district submitted a finalist. The online public voting stage of the contest will conclude on December 17th, and Mayor Menino will announce the first, second and third place winners at the business that receives the most votes during the contest on Thursday, December 19th.
