The following special events taking place in the City of Boston on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2013, will result in additional drivers, cyclists and pedestrians using local streets. All are advised to follow the rules of the road to maximize traffic and pedestrian safety. The City of Boston encourages traveling by MBTA rather than private vehicle whenever possible.
The Mother’s Walk for Peace
The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute is holding their annual Mother’s Walk for Peace in Dorchester. An estimated 5,000 marchers will depart Townfield Park in Fields Corner at 8:30 AM. The route to be followed will take them left onto Dorchester Avenue to Ashmont Station, right onto Talbot Avenue to Codman Square, right onto Washington Street, right onto Columbia Road, left onto Geneva Avenue, left onto Park Street, ending at Townfield Park at approximately 11 AM. Streets along the route will be closed for periods of time as the walk progresses.
The Duckling Day Parade
The Duckling Day Parade will take place from Noon to 3 PM. One thousand participants will gather on the Boston Common near the corner of Beacon and Park Streets. They will turn left onto Beacon Street, right onto Joy Street, left onto Mt. Vernon Street, left onto Charles Street, to Charles Street South corner entrance to the Boston Public Garden.
