Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), are pleased to announce that the BCYF Orient Heights Community Center will be officially renamed the Martin Pino Community Center on Friday, January 18th at 6 p.m.
A lifelong resident of East Boston who passed away in 2003, Marty was an influence on the lives of countless young people in many ways but especially through the basketball league he helped start at the Orient Heights Community Center in 1975. The movement to rename the center was started by Mario Gallotto who was coached by Marty and now helps run the basketball league. Mayor Menino quickly approved the renaming.
All are welcome to join the Mayor, Chief Griffin, BCYF staff and Marty’s friends and family as the center is renamed in Marty’s honor.
