Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), are pleased to announce that the West Roxbury Educational Complex Pool will be hosting the BCYF Flaherty Pool staff and many Flaherty Pool programs during the upcoming renovation to the pool.  This is an option for BCYF Flaherty members in addition to BCYF’s other 14 pools across the city.

Beginning in mid-November, the BCYF Flaherty Pool will undergo a much needed $5.6 million complete renovation including upgrades to the exterior, all mechanical systems, the locker rooms and interior spaces, and the pool itself.  At a public community meeting in June, attendees had the chance to hear from the architect and project manager, and review the design plans and a scale model of renovations.  Several suggestions were made that have been incorporated into the renovations and BCYF committed at the time to provide information in August about where Flaherty swimmers could swim once the renovations began.

The BCYF Flaherty Pool staff and programming will move to the West Roxbury Education Complex Pool on the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury but pool memberships will be honored at any of BCYF’s 14 other pools.  The schedule at the West Roxbury Education Complex Pool will be available at the Flaherty Pool or online at the BCYF website at www.CityofBoston.gov/BCYF prior to the move.
