Due to student move-in activity at Boston’s many colleges and universities, temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be in place at multiple locations over the next few days. Every effort is being made by both school administrators and the City to ensure that the job is accomplished quickly and efficiently with the least amount of inconvenience to local residents and motorists as possible. Boston drivers are asked to detour around these locations whenever possible through the end of the upcoming weekend.
Northeastern University
Northeastern University is making its Camden Street Parking Lot, as well as a limited number of spaces in the Gainsborough Garage, available to the adjacent residential neighborhood through 9 AM on Tuesday, September 4. The University has issued letters of authorization to residents which must be shown to the officer on duty at the parking facility and left visible on the dashboard of the vehicle.
Temporary “Tow Zone, No Parking August 28 - September 2” signs have been posted and will be in effect at the following locations.
Hemenway Street:
Both sides, from the Forsyth Institute Parking Lot (near Fencourt Road) to the alley opposite Symphony Road
Opera Place:
Both sides, from Huntington Avenue to Saint Stephen Street
Saint Stephen Street:
Both sides, Massachusetts Avenue to Opera Place
Gainsborough Street:
Both sides, from Huntington Avenue to Hemenway Street
Symphony Road:
Both sides, from Huntington Avenue to Hemenway Street
Westland Avenue:
Both sides, from Hemenway Street to Massachusetts Avenue
Columbus Avenue:
Both sides, from Benton to Douglass Park
Conventry Street:
Both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
Camden Street:
Both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
Douglas Park:
Both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
Burke Street:

Boston University/Brighton/Allston
Temporary “Tow Zone, No Stopping, 8 AM to 10 PM, August 30 – September 3” signs have been posted and will be in effect at the following locations in Brighton.
Pratt Street:
North side (even side), from Linden Street to Ashford Street.
Ashford Street:
North side (even side), from Linden Street to Malvern Street
Gardner Street:
North side (even side), from Linden Street to Malvern Street
Linden Street:
East side (even side), from Gardner Street to Pratt Street.
In addition, temporary changes to the existing traffic patterns will be in effect from Thursday, August 30 through Monday, September 3, 2012, as follows. (See attached map)
- A “No Left Turn” sign will be posted on Ashford Street at Chester Street requiring vehicles exiting Chester Street to turn right to Malvern Street.
- A “No Left Turn” sign will be posted on Ashford Street at Ashford Court requiring vehicles to continue straight to Malvern Street.
- A “No Left Turn” sign will be posted on Ashford Street at Hartley Street requiring vehicles to continue straight to Malvern Street.
- Three “No Right Turn” signs will be posted on Ashford Street at Pratt Street requiring vehicles exiting Pratt Street at Ashford Street to turn left on Ashford Street toward Malvern Street.
Mission Hill
To both accommodate student move-in and maintain parking for residents, temporary parking restrictions will be in effect on several streets in Mission Hill on Saturday, September 1. Vehicles displaying a current Mission Hill Resident Parking Permit will be exempt from the regulations as follows.
Temporary “Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM, Except RPP” signs will be posted and in effect at the following locations.
Calumet Street:
Both sides, from Darling Street to Hillside Street
Cherokee Street:
Both sides, from Pontiac Street to Hillside Street
Hillside Street:
Both sides, from Parker Hill Avenue to Parker Street
Oswald Street:
Both sides, from Calumet Street to Hillside Street
Pontiac Street:
Both sides, from Tremont Street to Hillside Street
Sachem Street:
Both sides, from Parker Hill Avenue to Calumet Street
Saint Alphonsus Street:
Both sides, from Alleghany Street to Calumet Street
Parking will be restricted at one additional location in this area throughout the day on Saturday, September 1. At this one location, resident vehicles will not be exempt from the restrictions. Temporary “Tow Zone, No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Saturday” signs will be posted and in effect on the following street.
Parker Hill Avenue:
West side, odd side, from Huntington Avenue to Hillside Street
