Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF,) are pleased to announce new “Fit Kits” available for loan now from ten BCYF community centers.

“As Mayor, I want all of our young people to have a fun, healthy, and safe summer experience,” said Mayor Menino.  “There are free or affordable programs in every neighborhood this summer and I am pleased to offer these new Fit Kits as another option for our families.”

The BCYF Fit Kids are new this summer and provide families and community members with the opportunity to borrow a mesh bag filled with sports equipment to play a number of games and activities.  The complete kit includes three hula hoops, one Frisbee, one football, one kickball, one basketball, one soccer ball, one stop watch, 12 flag football belts with flags, 12 cones, four jump ropes, two double-dutch ropes, one wiffle ball bat, three wiffle balls, one set of bases, six beanbags and one activity booklet which contains simple instructions for each game.  All or parts of the kit can be signed out.

“We really want to create ease of access for our families to join together in fitness and healthy activities,” said Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of BCYF.  “These Fit Kits allow families to enjoy healthy activities anywhere in the City.”

Anyone over the age of 18 can sign out a Fit Kit for FREE by visiting one of the BCYF community centers listed below and filling out a simple check-out form.  Fit Kits should be returned within 24 hours of check-out.
