First Woman Fire Captain among Six Promoted by Fire Commissioner

On April 3, 2012, before family and friends, the Oath of Office was administered by Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser to six members being promoted in rank.
Promoted to Deputy Chief was Daniel McDevitt from District 6 and to District Chief, Kevin Brooks from Engine 39.
Among those promoted was Boston Fire’s first woman Fire Captain, Irene Foley from the Fire Prevention Division. Also promoted to Captain was Michael Carey from Engine 37.
Joining the Officer ranks and promoted to Lieutenants were Patrick Derick from Engine 37 and Edward Walsh form Ladder 15.
Presenting their certificates and badges to them was Chief of Department Steve Abraira.
