The wait is over! Mayor Thomas M. Menino will join Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services/Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families, and members of the John A. Shelburne Community Council in officially re-opening BCYF’s Shelburne Community Center tomorrow, Saturday, January 28th at 12:00 noon.
The $6 million dollar exterior and interior renovation to the Shelburne Community Center included the repaving of the parking lot and exterior gardening upgrades; replacement of mechanical systems including boilers, electrical, plumbing and elevator; masonry repairs and window replacement; a new gym floor and bleachers as well as other athletic area upgrades; new teledata wiring and equipment and new furniture and equipment throughout the facility.
Come check out the work and celebrate the re-opening of this important community resource. The Shelburne is located at 2730 Washington Street just beyond Dudley Square in Roxbury. The re-opening festivities will include a brief speaking program followed by tours of the building, program sign-ups, basketball games, refreshments and more.
The Shelburne is the second BCYF community center in two months to re-open following a major renovation. The BCYF Curtis Hall Community Center in Jamaica Plain re-opened in late November.
