WHEN:          This Saturday, September 24th at 11:30 a.m.

WHERE:       The BCYF Tobin Community Center, 1481 Tremont Street, Mission Hill.

WHAT:          The Mayor will dedicate the newly-renovated gymnasium at the Tobin Community Center to the late Kevin W. Fitzgerald, a former State Representative for nearly 30 years and a champion of the benefits of sports for inner-city youth.

WHO:             Mayor Thomas Menino; Daphne Griffin, Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families and Chief of Human Services for the City of Boston; Members of Kevin’s family as well as former friends and co-workers, community members, Tobin staff and council members, elected officials and others 

Kevin Fitzgerald spent countless hours in the Tobin gym as a player, coach, and spectator.   A lifelong public servant whose empathy and dedication made him an inspiration to so many, he frequently credited the game of basketball with instilling in him the highest values of his life.  The event will include a plaque unveiling ceremony and the unveiling of banners for local basketball talents Shabazz Napier, Wayne Turner and Tony Lee.  There will also be a Mission Hill “Celebrity” basketball game and an open house in the community room for program information and registration.
