The Fire Commissioner is pleased to commend the members of the Fire Investigation Unit for their diligent and comprehensive work in conjunction with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. On April 6, 2008, a tragic arson fire occurred on West Sixth Street in District 6, where two children perished. On February 16, 2010, a Suffolk County Superior Court jury returned with a guilty verdict on two counts of second degree murder by arson, and two counts of assault and battery by arson. On February 18, 2010 a sentence of two consecutive life terms, and two consecutive eight to ten year terms were rendered. Because of their combined efforts, professionalism and dedication to duty, this investigation was brought to a successful conclusion.
Therefore, the Fire Commissioner’s Unit Citation is hereby awarded to:
