Boston’s golfers now have a direct link to the City of Boston’s links thanks to a new website, cityofbostongolf.com.
The site is the newly-launched homepage for the City’s two municipal golf courses, the William J. Devine Golf Course located at One Circuit Drive at Franklin Park and the George Wright Golf Course located at 420 West Street in Hyde Park.
The new website is designed to provide information to the city’s golfers on rates, season permits, upcoming tournaments, and online specials. In addition, cityofbostongolf.com will give visitors the opportunity to sign up for an email list that will provide updates and information from the pros and superintendents at the two courses.
In 2009 the George Wright Golf Course was named the 14th best municipal course in the nation by Golfweek and the number one municipal course in Massachusetts by Golf Digest, which has also named the William J. Devine Golf Course as one of their “Best Places to Play” three years in a row. Last year more than 35,000 rounds were played at each course.
Franklin Park’s William J. Devine Golf Course is the second-oldest public golf course in the nation. Golf has been played at that location since 1896. Over half of Boston’s residents live within a 15-minute drive of the course, which is a 6,090-yard, 18-hole classic par 70.
A hidden gem founded in 1938 in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, the George Wright Golf Course is an 18-hole Donald Ross designed golf course. This par 70 layout measures 6,440 yards from the back tees and is a challenge to golfers of any level.
Both courses plan on being fully open on April 1, weather permitting, and feature full pro shops, concessions, cart rentals, and lessons for all ages. The courses are owned and operated by the City of Boston through the Fund for Parks and Recreation and will be open daily from dawn to dusk.
