Matthews Arena Polling Location Change for January 19, 2010 Special State Election

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Board of Election Commissioners reminds voters in Ward 4 Precincts 5 and 8 that their polling location will be temporarily moved for the January 19, 2010 Special State Election for United States Senator.

Due to a previously scheduled event at the Matthews Arena, both precincts will vote at Northeastern University's Fenway Center, 77 Saint Stephen Street. Polls will be open from 7AM until 8PM.

"The Election Department is very grateful to the Northeastern University officials who made sure that there would be an alternative polling location for these precincts," said Geraldine Cuddyer, Chair of the Board of Election Commissioners. The polling location will return to the Matthews Arena for the Fall election cycle in 2010.

The Board also reminds voters that absentee ballots are now available. Applications for absentee ballots can be downloaded from the Election Department's website: www.cityofboston.gov/elections or can be requested by telephone. Voters considering using an absentee ballot should allow time for mailing of the application and the ballot itself. Given the unpredictability of January weather, the Board encourages voters who are elderly or have limited mobility to consider the use of an absentee ballot for this unusual winter election.

Voters with any questions regarding the polling location change or absentee ballots can contact the Boston Election Department at 617-635-3767 or through the website.
