Temporary parking restrictions will be in place, and traffic may be delayed, due to special events being held in Boston weekend. Boston Transportation Commissioner Thomas J. Tinlin is advising drivers to give themselves extra time if traveling in the city and to pay close attention to posted parking regulations. As always, taking advantage of the MBTA is recommended.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24
The Oak Scare 5K
will start at 9:30 AM on Faneuil Street, Brighton, between Brock Street and Oak Square Street. An estimated 300 runners will make their way from Faneuil Street, around the outside of Oak Square, left onto Washington Street, to Brighton Center, right onto Foster Street, right onto Commonwealth Avenue, right onto Lake Street, straight onto Brock Street, left onto Faneuil Street and finish at the YMCA.
The Crop Hunger Walk
will start at 9 AM in front of 285 Columbus Avenue. Utilizing the sidewalks only, an estimated 250 marchers will travel from Columbus Avenue, left to Melnea Cass Boulevard, right to Tremont Street, left to Malcom X. Boulevard, left to Dudley Street, right to Warren Street, right to Blue Hill Avenue, right to Seaver Street, to Columbus Avenue, left to Washington Street, right to Green Street, left to Centre Street, left to Seaverns Avenue.
The Boston Book Festival
will be taking place in and around Copley Square. To allow access for setting-up the event, as well as for the Festival itself, "Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, Friday and Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM " signs will be posted at the following locations.
Boylston Street, southeast side (Copley Square side) from Dartmouth Street to opposite #551 Boylston Street (including multi-space metered parking spaces)
Trinity Place, southwest side (Copley Plaza Hotel side) from St. James Avenue to the side entrance of the hotel, up to but not including the space for the Farmers' Market.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25
Rutherford Avenue,
between Sullivan Square and Austin Street, will be closed to traffic from 7 AM to 11 AM.
The 5th Annual MSPCA Divas Unleashed Halloween Pet Parade
will begin at Noon on Tremont Street at Herald Street. An estimated 500 participants will make their way from Tremont Street, straight to Charles Street South, across Boylston Street, and into the Boston Common at the McArthur Mall.
The Women of Courage Walk,
sponsored by the Museum of African American History and the Boston African American Historic Site of the National Park Service, will begin at 3:10 PM at 15 State Street. Participants will march on sidewalks from State Street, to Washington Street, right to West Street, cross Tremont Street, and proceed to the Boston Common.
