A number of large events are being held in Boston on Saturday, September 26, and the combination of activities is expected to cause traffic delays and detours. City officials are strongly encouraging those coming in to participate in the festivities to take the MBTA and advising drivers to take alternate routes.
The Mayor's Cup Professional Bike Race will take place on Saturday, September 26 with the starting line on Cambridge Street at Boston City Hall. Cyclists will follow Cambridge Street to New Sudbury Street to Congress Street to Court Street and back to Cambridge Street. A Children's Race will start at 3 PM, the Women's Race at 3:30 PM, the Mascot's Race at 4:35 PM and the Men's race at 5 PM. Traffic will be stopped intermittently to allow the race to proceed along the route. Tow Zone, No Stopping regulations will be in effect at the following locations on Saturday.
Cambridge Street, both sides, from Court Street to New Sudbury Street
Congress Street, west (City Hall) side, from New Sudbury Street to State Street
Court Square, both sides, in its entirety
Court Street, both sides, from Washington Street to Cambridge Street
Devonshire Street, east (opposite the Old State House) side, from State Street to Devonshire Place
New Sudbury Street, southeast side, from Cambridge Street to Congress Street
New Chardon Street, both sides, from Cambridge Street to Merrimac Street
State Street, both sides, from Congress Street to Washington Street
Washington Street, both sides, from Water Street to Court Street
The Phantom Gourmet Food Festival will be held on Saturday, September 26. Lansdowne Street, from Brookline Avenue to Ipswich Street and to Van Ness Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3 AM to 8 PM. Tow Zone, No Stopping parking regulations will be in effect at the following locations.
Lansdowne Street, both sides, from Brookline Avenue to Ipswich Street
Ipswich Street, both sides from Jillian's Club to the alley between the garage and the Boston Arts Academy and north side (Jillian's side) from #145 Ipswich Street heading east to the overpass of Charlesgate West.
The Fenway/Kenmore area of the city will be particularly difficult for drivers to navigate on Saturday. As the result of special events taking place in the neighborhood, the following streets will be closed.
On Saturday, September 26 from 6 AM to 2 PM, Boylston Street, from Ipswich Street to Yawkey Way will be closed to vehicular traffic. Outbound traffic may travel down Park Drive to the Sears Rotary or Yawkey Way to Brookline Avenue. Inbound traffic may choose Boylston Street and turn left onto Yawkey Way to access Brookline Avenue.
A strong police presence will be maintained in the Fenway/Kenmore neighborhood on Saturday and all streets will remain open to public safety vehicles at all times.
The Beantown Jazz Festival will take place on Saturday, September 26. Columbus Avenue, Benton Street, Burke Street, Coventry Street, Ward Street, St. Cyprian's Place and Camden Street will all be closed to vehicular traffic from Massachusetts Avenue to Burke Street from 6 AM to 10 PM. The Northeastern University Parking Garage will be accessible via Tremont Street. Tow Zone, No Stopping parking regulations will be in effect throughout the day at the following locations.
Columbus Avenue, both sides, from Northampton Street to Benton Street, north side, from opposite Benton Street to opposite Burke Street, south side, from Northampton street to Massachusetts Avenue and south side, in front of the Harriet Tubman House at #566
Northampton Street, both sides, from Columbus Avenue to the Dead End and both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
Camden Street, both sides, from Columbus Avenue to the Dead End and both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
Benton Street, both sides, from Columbus Avenue to Tremont Street
Douglass Park, both sides, from Columbus Avenue to Tremont Street
Davenport Street, both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
Burke Street, both sides, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue
The Oak Street Fair will be held on Oak Street in Chinatown on Saturday, September 26. Oak Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9 AM to 4 PM and Tow Zone, No Stopping parking regulations will be in effect throughout the day on both sides of Oak Street, from Shawmut Avenue to Washington Street.
