The Boston Transportation Department is advising motorists that vehicular traffic will be prohibited and parking will be restricted on many streets in Boston on Monday, April 20, 2009 due to the running of the Boston Marathon. It is strongly recommended that the public use the MBTA to travel to and from Boston on Monday.

A number of streets will be closed in the days leading up to the Marathon for related purposes. Those restrictions are as follows.

Wednesday, April 15 to Tuesday, April 21
Boylston Street, both sides, Arlington Street to Exeter Street (intermittent closings)

Saturday, April 18 to Tuesday, April 21
Dartmouth Street, both sides, St. James Avenue to Boylston Street

Sunday, April 19 to Tuesday, April 21
Berkeley Street, from St. James Avenue to Newbury Street (intermittent closings)

Sunday, April 19, 8 AM - 10AM
Various streets through Downtown, Beacon Hill and the Back Bay will be closed for periods of time as runners participating in the Friendship Run progress to the finish line. Congress Street, Court Street, Tremont Street, Park Street, Beacon Street, Hereford Street and Boylston Street are all included.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic on Monday, April 20, 2009. Streets around Copley Square will close at 6 AM, streets inside Massachusetts Avenue will close at 9 AM and streets outside of Massachusetts Avenue will close at 10 AM.

No Parking will be allowed on the following streets on Monday, April 20, 2009 and the regulation will be strictly enforced. Furthermore, drivers should be aware that parking will be restricted on some of these streets several days in advance of Marathon Monday to allow for preparation work to take place. Back Bay drivers are cautioned to pay close attention to posted signs throughout the week.

Inbound side, from the Brookline Line to Kenmore Square
