BUILDING INSPECTOR RECEIVES HIGH HONORS FROM ARCHBISHOP

On November 23, 2008, Boston Inspectional Services Building Inspector Chief Michael Okafor was given the Bishop Cheverus Medal in recognition of exemplary service to the church. This honor was bestowed upon Chief Okafor during the Bicentennial Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. He has been an active member of the St. Katharine Drexel Parish of Boston for over 18 years. As an active member, Chief Okafor holds several seats within the church, including, Parish Council Member, Renovation Commission Member, and Fund Raising Committee Member. He is also an active Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Okafor previously has received several honors.
On January 11, 2003, in recognition and appreciation of his selfless and exemplary life in the Diaspora and his outstanding support for traditional institutions of Enugwu-Ukwu/Umunri in Nigeria, Okafor was conferred with a Chieftaincy Title of “Ononikpoaku” by the King, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Osita Agwuna III, Clan Head of Umunri Clan, Njikoka Local government area, Anambra State, Nigeria.
In 1983, Okafor migrated to the United States from Nigeria and settled in Boston. He then enrolled in Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston where he received a Bachelor degree in Building Construction. In 1988, he began working for the City Of Boston Building Department as a Building Inspector.
Okafor has been active in the community throughout his career. In addition to church activities, he has also found time to participate as a Housing and Urban Development Federal Housing Authority 203(k) Certified Consultant, Plan Reviewer, and Fee Inspector. As an active member of the Nigerian Community, Okafor is also the founding treasurer of the Association of Enugwu-Ukwu Indigenes Inc., USA and is an active member of the Igbo Organization of New England Inc. ###
