Several outstanding members of Boston EMS were awarded in November at the 8th Annual Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services Council Awards. EMS Medical Director Dr. Peter Moyer received the Erwin F. Hirsch, MD Lifetime Achievement Award; Elliot Derdak and Phil Barboni received the Regional Director’s Commendation; Bruce Proulx received the Telecommunicator of the Year Award; the City of Boston received the HeartSafe Community Award and 15 field staff received the Outstanding Team Response award for their actions on July 11th for the lightning incident at Franklin Field: Roger Aiello, Lee Alexander, John Bilotas, Michael Bosse, Garvey Cameron, William DeYoung, Melvin Guate-Joseph, Kevin Hunter, Stan Majorowski, David McClellan, Daniel Morissey, Anne Norton, Sue Schiller, Robert Walsh, and Joseph Welby. Today, MBEMSC serves 62 cities and towns with 70 licensed ambulance services. Among these, are 35 paramedic level services, including one helicopter service, and 4 intermediate level services; a mixture of public and private services. Each of these agencies works in conjunction with one another in providing emergency medical care to the residents and visitors of the Metropolitan Boston area.
