Mayor Menino Announces Rally for World Champion Red Sox

Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Red Sox today announced plans for a Rolling Rally to celebrate the team's World Series victory.

"The Boston Red Sox have won the World Series for the second time in four years and it was a spectacular victory," Mayor Menino said. "I want to join all of Red Sox nation in congratulating our team on this amazing achievement. We will celebrate our World Champion team tomorrow with a rolling rally through the streets of Boston."

Details include:

  • The Rolling Rally will begin at Fenway Park at Noon and follow the same route as the rally in 2004 and conclude at New Chardon Street and Cambridge Street – the Rally will NOT conclude at the Charles River.

  • There will be 3 areas where spectators can watch the Rally live from jumbotrons along the route:
    • Copley Square
    • Boston Common (Parkman Bandstand)
    • City Hall Plaza

The Rolling Rally will feature special guests The Dropkick Murphys performing their hit songs and Jonathan Papelbon doing his celebratory dance. The MBTA will have a rush hour schedule all day and those attending the Rolling Rally are encouraged to use public transportation.

Many streets throughout Downtown Boston will be closed to traffic and on-street parking will be restricted due to the Boston Red Sox World Series Rolling Rally. The parade will start at Noon on Boylston Street at Yawkey Way and will proceed along the following route.
  • Boylston Street
  • Straight on Park Drive/Fenway
  • Straight on Boylston Street
  • Left on Tremont Street
  • Straight on Cambridge Street
  • Ending at New Chardon Street.

Vehicular traffic will be banned from the posted rolling rally route and immediately adjoining cross streets at approximately 10 AM. To protect public safety the Boston Police Department may further restrict parking and vehicular movement during the event. In addition, temporary parking restrictions will be put into effect at several locations throughout the city and vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and/or towed.
