Peabo Bryson Performs at the Opera House and Gov. Deval Patrick delivers Keynote Address in Faneuil Hall

Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Target will present a free two-day public celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 14 and 15, 2007.

The celebration begins January 14 with MLK: A Gift of Song at the Opera House, at 7 p.m. with a concert featuring recording artist Peabo Bryson, as well as local artists. The tribute to Dr. King continues on January 15 with A National Oration featuring Governor Deval Patrick in Historic Faneuil Hall at Noon.

"The City of Boston is proud to present these two events to help celebrate and reflect on the legacy of Dr. King," Mayor Menino said. "Dr. King's message of justice and peace are as relevant today as they were during the Civil Rights Movement. I invite all Bostonians to join us in honoring a true American hero."

MLK: A Gift of Song- Peabo Bryson is an American R & B and soul singer, born on April 13, 1951 in Greenville, South Carolina. He is well known for singing soft-rock ballads, often as a duo with female singers, and his contribution to several Disney animated feature soundtracks.Bryson won a Grammy Award in 1992 for his performance of the song "Beauty and the Beast" with Céline Dion and another in 1993 for "A Whole New World" (Aladdin's Theme) with Regina Belle.

On, January 15th, Martin Luther King Jr. – A National Oration- Newly sworn in Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick will deliver this keynote address for the second time, having spoken in 1995.

The two-day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Public Celebration is presented by the Mayor's Office of Arts, Tourism & Special Events and is co-sponsored by Target, the Opera House, and the MLK Planning Committee. Both events are free and open to the public. However, due to limited seating tickets are required for the free Peabo Bryson concert. Please call 617-635-3911 for information on where and when free tickets can be picked up. The free tickets are available on a first come first served basis and the limit is 4 per person.
