The weather may feel like summer, but October is the month for some great Boston youth hockey as the 2013 Mayor’s Cup Hockey Tournament kicks off.  Sponsored by Presenting Sponsor the Boston Bruins Foundation with additional support from Comcast, teams throughout Boston participate in this citywide tournament to vie for the championship title in 11divisions for boys and girls ages 6-14 (Mites, Squirts, Pee Wee, Girls U10, Girls U12, Girls U14.)  The tournament is organized by Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF,) the City of Boston’s largest youth and human service agency.

“I would like to thank the Boston Bruins Foundation and Comcast for their long-standing and invaluable support of the youth of Boston and in particular, the Bruins Foundation, for their continued sponsorship of Boston’s annual Mayor’s Cup Hockey Tournament,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino.

Games begin on Saturday, October 5th at 7 a.m. with the last game that day scheduled to start at 9 p.m.  On Sunday the 6th, games begin at 7 a.m. and end with an 8 p.m. game.  Rinks hosting the tournament include the Murphy Rink in South Boston, the Devine Rink in Dorchester, the Clark Center Ice Rink at UMass Boston and at the Matthews Arena Rink at Northeastern University.

The following weekend, games begin on Saturday, October 12th at 7 a.m. and wrap up on Columbus Day Monday the 14th with an 8 p.m. game.  The Championship Games will be held all day on Sunday, October 27th at the John "Snooks" Kelley Rink at Conte Forum at Boston College.

“Youth hockey continues to grow in Boston and the support of the Boston Bruins Foundation and Comcast allows us to bring together over 1,000 young people in this one-of-a-kind tournament,” said Daphne Griffin, Boston’s Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families.
