Due to concerns for the safety of park users during a neighboring construction project, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department announced this week that the tot lot at Healy Playground in Roslindale is closed at least through June 1, 2013.

On November 26, the Flaherty Pool, located within the park and overseen by Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), began undergoing a much-needed $5.6 million complete renovation including upgrades to the exterior, all mechanical systems, the locker rooms and interior spaces, and the pool itself.

Due to the proximity of the tot lot to the pool and its location along the driveway that will be used by contractors throughout the project, the Parks Department, along with the Public Facilities Department and BCYF, must close the Healy Playground tot lot for at least six months.  Athletic fields will not be affected.

“This is a fast track project and there will be a heavy amount of construction traffic on a daily basis with a great deal of activity in and around the building,” noted Boston Parks Commissioner Antonia M. Pollak. “For the safety of all, the area will be fenced off and the tot lot closed until the Flaherty Pool reconstruction project is complete.”

The project is slated to be completed July 1, 2013, with the tot lot reopening as soon as June 1.   For more information, please call the Boston Parks and Recreation Department at (617) 635-4505.
