Fields Corner Branch of the BPL to Reopen November 2

BOSTON — October 26, 2009 – The Fields Corner branch of the Boston Public Library will reopen on Monday, November 2 at 10:00 a.m. following the completion of a building improvement project there. The building improvements include roof restoration, select insulated window installation, and the replacement of the storefront and doors.

The project at the Fields Corner branch is part of a City of Boston three-branch building improvement plan. The other two branches that underwent building improvements in conjunction with this initiative are the West Roxbury branch and the South End branch. "Part of what makes the Boston Public Library so special is its neighborhood branches. We are pleased to bring the Fields Corner branch back online and into the community so early in November," said Christine Schonhart, Neighborhood Services Manager.

The Fields Corner Branch is notable for its large collection of Vietnamese and Spanish books as well as its regular series of preschool films every Wednesday. Over the summer, the Fields Corner Branch was selected as one of the pilot sites for the Boston Public Library's Guys Read program, inspired by author Jon Scieszka.
