The New Bostonians Vote 2001 Campaign unifies 300 community based organizations and individuals in Boston to make a public statement that immigrants want to be involved in decisions impacting their neighborhoods and families. In order to improve the coordination and organizing efforts in Boston's immigrant communities, the Mayor's Office of New Bostonians and our community partners formed the New Bostonians Organizing Committee (consisting of community members, activists, and City Hall departments) to shape the campaign. With the assistance of the Organizing Committee, the need for a focused education campaign to help immigrants learn about the voting process and increase civic participation was identified.
This civic participation and voter information kit is a result of great teamwork and collaboration with numerous organizations, city employees, and community members to create effective and meaningful strategies in which we can outreach, educate, and empower our residents about the significance of their voice. Included in this kit is the New Bostonians Vote: Give Our Communities A Voice video that shows diverse residents how to register to vote and how to vote; a New Bostonians Voter Information Book; and sample workshop modules to use the kit. We hope this kit will create excitement, energy, and commitment to actively engage our residents in the development of Boston.
